Featured artist—
Lee Bethel

Pictured above: Restrain, watercolour on hand-cut paper.

Bundeena artist Lee Bethel has been involved in Art of Living exhibitions over the last two decades. She has held many solo exhibitions, and her work has been selected for prestigious group exhibitions, including the Sulman Prize, the Rick Amor Drawing Prize, the South Australian Museum Natural History Art Prize, the Gallipoli Art Prize, the Hazelhurst Works on Paper Prize, ‘Hidden’ Rookwood Cemetery Sculpture Walk, and many more. Lee’s visually poetic work involves folding, manipulating and cutting paper, often combined with watercolour or encaustic, and sometimes constructed into ethereal sculptural shapes.

“For Lee Bethel, elegant constraints are the foundation of her workings, manipulating the fold, the grid and the seed. In her hands, the paper fold reveals its capacity for resilience and malleability. It is both a tangible folding of paper and a metaphorical folding of time and memory.” Melody Willis

Lee Bethel holds a Masters of Fine Art, Honours and a Bachelor in Visual Communications from Sydney College of the Arts. Lee is represented by the Egg and Dart Gallery, Thirroul.
